Arthritis is a condition that can cause a plethora of symptoms, including deterioration of muscles and joints, a reduction of use in your main joints, and of course, severe pain.
Even though joint pain is a common problem that is likely to happen to people as they age…That doesn’t mean this problem is absolutely non-preventable. Or at least, you can slow down the rate of wear & tear.
This is the ultimate guide for understanding the most common health dilemma that affects millions of people — joint problems.

ARE YOU ABOUT TO UNDERGO A KNEE REPLACEMENT AND DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU SHOULD BE DOING TO PREPARE?

At DGT Joint Academy, we help active women (60+) who are scheduled for a knee replacement to prepare for a fast and smooth recovery. Being prepared and confident heading into surgery will have a positive outcome and reduce stress and anxiety.

Why is this important? Preparing your home for safety and efficiency significantly reduces your risk of fall. Approximately 1 MILLION people a year fall after undergoing surgery. Even a relatively minor fall can greatly complicate your recovery. Preparing your home and performing exercises prior to surgery can help you achieve major milestones allowing you to return home faster than those who have not undergone a prehab program.

Why is Prehab Important? Although we cannot know the outcome of any surgical procedure in advance, we do know that patients who move better, feel better and are stronger, tend to do better. When your body is stronger going into surgery, it will also be stronger coming out of surgery leaving you better equipped to handle recovery. Performance of prehab exercises will allow your body to retain muscle memory of the movements, making the rehab process easier.

MEET DR. GINNY, DPT, FMP

Hi, I'm Dr. Ginny Thompson.
I am a Physical Therapist and Functional Medicine Practitioner. I have worked with hundreds of patients who have undergone hip and knee replacement over the last 13 years. Here at DGT Joint Academy, my goal is to help you prepare and recover from surgery as quickly and seamlessly as possible.

WHAT ACTUAL CLIENTS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT DGT JOINT ACADEMY

Dr. Ginny’s session provided a comprehensive approach to total knee replacement (TKR).  Our discussion included how to prepare my home, body, mind, and my family for TKR.  Dr. Ginny’s course materials featured details on safety within the home and the different options to obtain resources to save time and money.  The exercise guide is setting me up for success prior to TKR.  My family is already enjoying the recipes that she provided to care for all of our health.  I am much better prepared for my TKR based on the knowledge that Dr Ginny shared in an interesting and compassionate manner.  I highly recommend Dr. Ginny’s course.

- Colleen Conlon
My knee replacement surgery was a success.  I gained confidence in my recovery by being able to pre-plan my care based on the knowledge you offered during the knee course.  Being able to pre-organize my medications, understanding the need for consistent physiotherapy and the use of the cold water wrap were paramount in my recovery. After eight weeks I was back to school, successfully working in a kindergarten class.
